Virtual Cruise Brigham Bridge to Snakeholme Lock

These Photographs were taken during the installation of the replacement bridge at Brigham. The cruise took place on the 25th June 2002 after the removal of the fixed bridge. Access through the bridge hole was only available for from noon until 8pm. The distance from Brigham to Snakeholme Lock is approximately one and a half miles.

Through Brigham bridge

Looking back at the bridge hole as work continues on the modification of the bridge abutment.

After passing through the bridge the canal meanders through a tree lined section for approximately half a mile.

Onto the straight  The straight

Out of the tree lined section and ahead the straight (approximately 1 mile) up to Snakeholme lock.

At the trout farm out fall below Snakeholme lock, at present a silt bar comes out from this out fall (only soft silt). A clear channel was found against the left hand bank hard up against the trees. Above the out fall the canal width is restricted by weeds.

Approach to Snakeholme lock

Into the narrow weeded section, Snakeholme lock ahead..

Arrival at the dam below Snakeholme lock. The dam was put in place during the fitting of the new bottom gates and will be removed as soon as stop plank grooves have been fitted.

Looking back at the dam below the bottom chamber at Snakeholme lock. We made it with no problems with water depth or weeds.
