Brian Holmes Pictures of the Navigation around 1964 and 1970

These pictures were kindly donated by Brian Holmes from Bradford.

Brian spends most of his time boating around the system and only comes home for weddings, funerals and Christmas. He is gradually scanning his canal slides because the earlier ones are degrading. You can catch up with Brian at Narrowboatworld.com see "In the Pink" on the sites Home Page.

Snakeholme Lock 1970

Picture of Snakeholme Lock possibly in 1970 from one of Margaret Sinfield's slides.

Wansford Lock 1964

Brian's wife Christine at Wansford Lock

We found this lock almost by accident in 1964 whilst on holiday at Bridlington. With petrol at 2/6d a gallon, we trundled round the countryside in our Morris 8 Series E unhindered by motorways. We had hired a boat earlier in the year from Bradford Boat Services and boated from Apperley Bridge to Blackburn and back. Heady stuff. The boat hire was £28! (Four weeks wages)

Picture taken by Margaret Sinfield in 1970, Scow on the Driffield Canal just below Brigham Scow Club.
