The pictures may be slow to load, but you should find them worth the wait.

Approaching the bridge under the A1035 Tickton By-Pass. Note that the head room of this bridge would not allow a Keel to pass under it. Sufficient head room should have been allowed, but as can be seen someone took the easy option and build the bridge at one level. The picture on the right is looking back towards Hull Bridge.

Looking back as the boats moored above Hull Bridge are passed. Looking forward up the river Hull as the end of the moored boats is reached.

Approaching Pulfin Bog
dcp_1000.jpg dcp_1002.jpg
Pulfin Bog is a Nature reserve, popular for its fishing and wildlife. Original a Bog which was dug out, the materials being used for the raising of the flood banks along the river.
dcp_1005.jpg dcp_1010.jpg
Continuing up stream with Pulfin Bog still on the right hand side, as the reed beds are approached and a  narrow section of the river.  Reed beds on the right hand side as the course of the river winds around Pulfin Bog. The river at this point is narrow but the channel is deep.
dcp_1011.jpg dcp_1012.jpg
Passing Ayke Beck, on the left hand side.
dcp_1013.jpg dcp_1020.jpg
The reed beds continue up this section until the bend is rounded, ahead. Captain Kettles Cut (right hand side), at low water the  ribs of several sunken barges are visible at the end of the cut. Pulfin Bog is beyond the end of the cut.
dcp_1025.jpg dcp_1029.jpg
Last view of Pulfin Bog over the bank top as we approach Leven Lock end. Approaching Leven Lock end. The Leven Canal and the Lock are not visible from the river unless a high vantage point is available.

Picture of the disused Leven Lock and the start of the Canal The Leven Canal is 3¼ miles long. The lock connected the canal with the River Hull. Hopefully one day the lock and the canal will be restored. See the Pictures of Leven Lock End

For more information on the Leven Canal see the account by Peter Hardcastle 1997, on the History Page.
